And I end the night this way

I was too lazy to cook, even lazier to eat “good”, so I picked up Chinese food and watched 90210. I substituted 90210 for dumplings, less fat ;-)

So this whole time I thought Chinese fortune cookies told fortunes (and lotto numbers), they’re not suppose to state facts:

Vampires, Werewolves and Sushi at the Mall: Oh My!

I consider myself the risk taking type, and specifically advantageous when the risk is minimal ;-) So while paroozing the Stonestown Mall (no, I wasn’t trolling for girls, though I could see why you’d think that…since it’s like High School Musical at that place), I decided to try eating Sushi there.

I know; Sushi at the Mall? That’s like eating at Panda Express and NOT BE AT THE MALL.I had what they called the “Killer” roll, though the girl pronounced it as “Killers roll” so immediately I got “Mr. Brightside” stuck in my head.

It’s been about 4 hours since I had the roll (and miso soup) and so far the stomach is A-OK and no signs of Montezuma’s revenge.

I then headed to the theater to see Defiance, but then while I was in the urinal (after buying the ticket), I read a review on my Blackberry that basically summed it up as “emotion-less”. So I walked into Underworld: Rise Of the Lycans instead. I had seen the previous 2 films, and this was the prequel of the already implied storyline.

In spite of already knowing what it was going to be about, I was pleasantly surprised at how good the story was told. The special effects were simliar to the first 2 films, so nothing “wow” about that. Rhona Mitra, who plays the main character, Sonja, was STUNNING. Or just plain old HOT ASS, if you prefer that type of terminology ;-)

If you’re on the fence about watching since you haven’t seen the first two, or skipped the second one, you’ll be fine watching this. There are slight references to the future, but you won’t be lost (kinda like watching Back To The Future III before watching II).

I’m waiting for food, godspeed all

I wonder what we’ll talk about…(e***)

tv

I’m meeting up with one of my favorite colleagues (and friend) for dinner & drinks tonight. And though we have imposed a “no work talk” clause in past gatherings, I just don’t think I can bring myself to do that tonight. The company announced earnings today, and I have to say my favorite (and most applicable) article title was this ONE. It pains me to read all the articles/blog posts, etc (and yes, I’ve read practically all of them today). I’m a few short weeks away fron my return and not exactly sure of what I’m returning to.  I’d love to say the rest of my life is so fabulous that nothing can possibly (at work) bring me down, but that would just be bullshit.

Sure, I feel accomplished and proud of what I do (and the team that I’m part of), but right now, I keep asking myself if that holds any value or stock (no pun intended) when I wake up everyday.

I feel like an old television who’s just waiting for the transition to a digital signal…, which will render me obsolete. For once though I’m not scared of the future, but I wish it would just hurry up and get here.

I’m also filled with stressful situations right now, even the associated ones. I have friends who have to deal with flaky lovers, a sick kitty, no method of logic and one really annoying car alarm that is pissing me off (and will likely cost me a few hundred to fix).

P.S

Not that anyone reads this, but my views have absolutely nothing to do with the views/expressions or press releases of my employer.

Traveling at 20

with one comment

I’m back in San Francisco, but need to recap my last night in Guayaquil; my hostel bud (Daniel) and I decided to take a crack at the local Mariscos restaurant. While we enjoyed our dinner I took the opportunity to ask him various questions about why take 6 months out of your life to come to South America, so far from home (Melbourne). I remember being 20 and having a hard time leaving my own neighborhood, let alone flying 3,000 miles away. Actually, I think I was 20 the first time I took a plane, and it was only to a destination 90 miles away ;-)

So ladies & gents, introducing Mr. Daniel Nicholson

And what about this food!

Organic lunch, oh yum!

After taking some drugs for my tummy and drinking lots of NON TAP water, I made my way down to the plaza for lunch. Though I have quickly become in love with the local street food vendors, I didn’t want to risk putting myself back to how I felt early this morning. I came across a restaurant called “Greens” which boasts itself as being an Organic joint. I had the tastiest coffee this side of Four Barrel‘s in the Mission. I also scarfed down a hummus wrap with roasted vegetables. The hummus definitely tasted different than what I consider hummus to taste like, but in a good way. Very fresh. After my lunch I burnt some calories by walking around the plaza and taking some time to smell the fresh air, it had recently rained (like everyday I’ve been here).

Now I need to start finalizing my plans for the next 2 days, as that’s all I have left in Cusco, aside from any unforeseen plane delays (crossing fingers).
