Beautiful Day
Its such a beautiful day, sun is shining and it’s about 74 degrees here in Santa Monica. We are planning to go to the beach, happy hour and a Tweetup all in one day. Who wouldn’t want to be us?

A playlist for Hannah
Hannah, I made you a Jane’s Addiction mixtape. You can access it here
This is obviously just a taste of them, and I avoided the “Strays” album which didn’t include Eric Avery. I started and ended the mix with the 2 most epic songs they ever recorded, “Mountain Song” has the classic bass line, while “Three Days’ has the most amazing Dave Navarro guitar solo!
They also recently received the NME Godlike Award, which resulted in the first live performance of the ORIGINAL BAND MEMBERS in over 17 years*. Here’s a cool interview about that:
*(They self combusted after the Lollapalooza tour in 1991)
Enjoy!
Whores
As I’ve mentioned in previous posts, I plan to do a lot things I normally don’t during my sabbatical. One of these things is READ. The first book on my list is Whores which is the history of Jane’s Addiction and their frontman, Perry Farrell.
I remember 1990 being the year I discovered “Ritual De Lo Habitual” and just being mesmerized and struck with curiosity. Who the hell were these guys and why did they sound like NO ONE ELSE? If you remember (if you’re old like me), the radio airwaves were filled with Wilson Phillips, Roxette and Milli Vanilli during that year. Nothing against them, I still love “Blame It On The Rain”, especially during rain outs
So back to my rant, JA was so different, even from the heavy rock of GnR and wannabees like Poison. JA changed my musical tastes so drastically that I lost friends and became a new person (still the same person now). So for those of you who remember Jane’s, I highly recommend this book, I’m 120 pages into it and re-living my high school years.
On a side note, a recent new friend in my life is the famous Modi, who directed the Jane’s video “Mountain Song”, now that is kick ass!
Los Angeles vs New York City
I’ve been thinking a lot about the future, and where that might lead me. Two of the cities that I’d consider are NYC or LA as my next destination. And based on my networking circle, it’s probably the only 2 places I could land a job at.
So which one?
