I have a JOB!
Well it only took a month, but I finally got a job! I was pretty much contemplating living in Central Park the day before I got the offer (seriously!). I was going to resort to being homeless because I was so worried that I wouldn’t be able to survive/afford NYC.
I’m glad I have tons of positive friends, because God knows I was about as pessimistic as could be. So what exactly will I be doing? Well I’ll be managing DIRECTV’s social media strategy and programs. This is a brand new position, which means that no matter what I do, I will go down as either “the guy who paved a road of success” or “the guy who set us back to the days of Friendster relevance”.
No pressure, seriously.
More social media conducive? Country Music or Porn?
I really like this new Keith Urban song, not sure how I feel about the video. I find it interesting that Myspace got the exclusive for this, but then again, the question may be “Is Myspace more conducive to Country Music fans?” Compared to Facebook, what do you think? I have actively searched out certain artists on social media platforms and it seemsĀ that Country music artists tend to have a more “hands off” approach to social media, but their fans take the torch and creative fan sites/user ids, etc within these properties. Keith is one of the exceptions.
Personally I would love to see more artists utilize social media tools to give us a more in depth look into their lives, after all, we are willing to pay $90 (plus fees) to see them play for 2 hours, why not allow us to live vicariously through you while you’re deciding whether to order a latte or frap. I feel the differentiator between those who “get it” and those who don’t (re: social media) is those who have twitter accounts. You really can’t “half ass” twitter, you’re either in or out.
Humans are naturally curious, we’re like cats, but with bigger egos. One of my favorite twitterer is @sashagrey. Sasha Grey is an adult film star. She is extremely witty and intelligent (I’ve seen interviews, so not just basing this on her tweets). And no, she’s not talking dirty
She realizes that in addition to people wanting to see her scenes, they’re probably curious about who she really is as a person (stereotype disolving).
