It’s that time of year
Opening Day, ESPN Sunday Night Baseball and everyone has that same thought flowing through their minds: “this is our year!”
Same applies to me and being the superstitious person that I am, I will refrain from forecasting where we will stand 161 games from this day.
The $10 beer
I attended Opening Day at AT&T Park today (Giants won, woot woot). Mother Nature was nice to us, as it rained all morning and up to 29 minutes before the first pitch. That said pitch was thrown by Sully, yes, Sully! So my friend Andrew made an observation about how the recessions wasn’t stopping anyone from consuming $10 beers.
It got me thinking, does drinking $10 beers a by product of us caring about the recession and wanting to “give back” to everyone we can (if we can afford to do so). Now I know what you’re thinking “$10 beers have been here for years”, and yes, I agree. But this recession has only been here since late last year, and now, I feel that rather than curbing the consumption of over priced Budweiser’s, we may actually feel “obligated” to do so. I know, it sounds crazy, but these are the things I think about when I’ve taken 2 Benadryl’s and have gone through my ipod without any luck at finding “meaning”.
I was thinking about putting up an ad on CL for friendship, but someone beat me to it, so I replied.
On a sideĀ note, why do cats sleep so much?
A weekend in pictures
It goes without saying that nothing could have topped this weekend because of the Wildcats win over Cleveland St, securing their first trip to the Sweet Sixteen since theĀ “collapse” in Chicago. I think we can give Louisville a game…
Oh, we also had a party

Blind in one eye and ready for the BIG GAME

My last contact is torn (WTF?) and now I will be a serious one eye willy watching the biggest game of the year. Of all the times that I could have a torn, non-wearable contact, it had to be this week. I’m one of those statistics guys, the “one in a 400 million possibility” that something might go wrong with your lasik surgery. I had lasik 5 years ago, and within one year, my right eye went from 20/15 (after surgery) to 20/400 (which is legally blind in most states).
So I have to wear a special contact called synergeyes in my right eye, so I can get to about 20/40 (which is fine for mostly everything except commercial/military flying or surgery).
So back to the pity rant, so I had no more contacts left except this one SUPER FRESH OUT OF THE BOX one and I take it out and put it on and it has a tear on it. WTF? I don’t really have nails (yes, I have the King James syndrome), so what else could it have been? No clue, but now I have to be watching the game with one eye open.
Anyone have a patch? GO CARDS!

So the Cardinals are in the Super Bowl
Wow. I remember the first Monday Night game in Tempe and there being more Dallas Cowboys fans (and Hershel Walker jerseys) than actual Cardinals fans. 20 years ago seems like a long time. I was in 8th Grade and I still believed in Santa….wow, that is a long time. Way to go CARDS!
Nick’s Sports Bar, Part Deux
So I went back on Saturday to Nick’s, and it was a blast like the previous night. The only difference was that I got there early to meet up with my friend Tara. Tara is a very smart girl and she has some good insight into the soul. We decided she’d give me a therapy session while we awaited the Atlanta vs Arizona game. Bruce Springsteen was also playing on the jukebox, and we had a couch…so what else is there to kill time?

Tara helped me realize that I’ve been holding on to some serious abandonment/control issues since I was 17. Without going into the boring details, I’ll do quick bullet points:
*boy falls for girl
*girl becomes girlfriend
*girlfriend breaks up with boy abruptly (at least he thought so)
*ex-girlfriend gets pregnant from boy’s former best friend
*boy cries like a little bitch for the better part of 1991
the end. thanks Tara, I need to get over that shit.
Nick’s Sports Bar, Part One

cheers
This post is “Part One” because in a few minutes I will be headed back to Nick’s Sports Bar to watch the NFL Playoffs. I went to Nick’s last night in hopes of watching the Utes beat the Tide, which they did, but the signal wasn’t coming in for the game. Since I had no other options, I decided to stay for one beer, which turned to a few more and a lot of laughs, conversations about Lebanon and singing Happy Birthday to Nick at midnight.
This is the story that most people probably tell when they go traveling to another country. Get drunk, meet new peeps, exchange numbers and live forever

woot woot
I forgot everyone’s name except for Nick’s (since his name is on the marquee), but hopefully I can catch names again this time.
cheers!
Damn you Oregon
Not that I’m the Pac-10 commissioner, but I’m sure he’s pretty pissed that Oregon is putting a bitch slap on the Beavers right now. In the 4th QTR it’s 51-31, seriously? AT HOME (OSU), you obviously don’t deserve to represent the Pac in the Rose Bowl but you basically made a smorgasbord of the Bowl season for the rest of the conference and cost it about 4 million dollars, thanks, thanks a lot.
Now I’m wondering what happens to Arizona, because Oregon will either head to the Sun Bowl or Las Vegas Bowl…, and Arizona ends up where? Emerald? Not that I’d complain, since that’s here at home and I”ll be back in San Francisco by then.
Now that Oklahoma vs Oklahoma St game is really good, very close and it will likely come down to the wire which will directly result in me not going out on time.
In the 12th inning
I’m on edge right now, the Sox & Angels are tied in the top of the 12th inning as the east coast welcomes in Monday. I’m guessing Alison (my friend) is also up, but sucks for her since she works/lives in the east coast. Shit, they just scored, 5-4 Angels
time for the rally cap
They LOST, Game 4 here we come
