More social media conducive? Country Music or Porn?
I really like this new Keith Urban song, not sure how I feel about the video. I find it interesting that Myspace got the exclusive for this, but then again, the question may be “Is Myspace more conducive to Country Music fans?” Compared to Facebook, what do you think? I have actively searched out certain artists on social media platforms and it seemsĀ that Country music artists tend to have a more “hands off” approach to social media, but their fans take the torch and creative fan sites/user ids, etc within these properties. Keith is one of the exceptions.
Personally I would love to see more artists utilize social media tools to give us a more in depth look into their lives, after all, we are willing to pay $90 (plus fees) to see them play for 2 hours, why not allow us to live vicariously through you while you’re deciding whether to order a latte or frap. I feel the differentiator between those who “get it” and those who don’t (re: social media) is those who have twitter accounts. You really can’t “half ass” twitter, you’re either in or out.
Humans are naturally curious, we’re like cats, but with bigger egos. One of my favorite twitterer is @sashagrey. Sasha Grey is an adult film star. She is extremely witty and intelligent (I’ve seen interviews, so not just basing this on her tweets). And no, she’s not talking dirty
She realizes that in addition to people wanting to see her scenes, they’re probably curious about who she really is as a person (stereotype disolving).

Vampires, Werewolves and Sushi at the Mall: Oh My!

I consider myself the risk taking type, and specifically advantageous when the risk is minimal
So while paroozing the Stonestown Mall (no, I wasn’t trolling for girls, though I could see why you’d think that…since it’s like High School Musical at that place), I decided to try eating Sushi there.
I know; Sushi at the Mall? That’s like eating at Panda Express and NOT BE AT THE MALL.I had what they called the “Killer” roll, though the girl pronounced it as “Killers roll” so immediately I got “Mr. Brightside” stuck in my head.
It’s been about 4 hours since I had the roll (and miso soup) and so far the stomach is A-OK and no signs of Montezuma’s revenge.
I then headed to the theater to see Defiance, but then while I was in the urinal (after buying the ticket), I read a review on my Blackberry that basically summed it up as “emotion-less”. So I walked into Underworld: Rise Of the Lycans instead. I had seen the previous 2 films, and this was the prequel of the already implied storyline.
In spite of already knowing what it was going to be about, I was pleasantly surprised at how good the story was told. The special effects were simliar to the first 2 films, so nothing “wow” about that. Rhona Mitra, who plays the main character, Sonja, was STUNNING. Or just plain old HOT ASS, if you prefer that type of terminology ![]()

If you’re on the fence about watching since you haven’t seen the first two, or skipped the second one, you’ll be fine watching this. There are slight references to the future, but you won’t be lost (kinda like watching Back To The Future III before watching II).
I’m waiting for food, godspeed all
I’m happy when it rains

MMMM, Coffee
I’m getting to the home stretch of my sabbatical and today is just perfect for staying in and catching up on my thoughts. I tend to store “thoughts” away for a rainy day (pun intended) and address them when most appropriate.
I had a great night yesterday; met Michael for drinks at Jade, then headed to Amelie to meet up with Wendy & Erik to enjoy a nice glass of Malbec (and scarf on their cheese plate). Michael and I then went to Brick to eat (they have some damn good meat). I woke up to raindrops and a good feeling about “things” in general.
Gizmo is still sick, so I dropped him off at the Vet and I’m hanging at my friend Jenny’s house (she lives around the corner from the Vet) until they release him. Being in someone’s home always brings awkwardness. Like do you use their toilet for #2 or not? I would allow someone to drop the kids off at my place, so the answer is YES, right?
I thought it was too, then Rocky gave me this look:

So I’m just gonna hold it (the thought)
“Talking fast on the edge of nothing, I would break my back for you”
If I could only do this with stupid people…
Bryana was trying to eat dinner, so I volunteered to keep Stella busy by using the oldest (and best) “keep kitty occupied” trick in the book; the laser pointer. And it got me thinking, wouldn’t it be great if anytime you were dealing with a really stupid person, you could just pull out a laser pointer? Not catching my drift, just envision that stupid person in the place of the kitten:
Traveling at 20
I’m back in San Francisco, but need to recap my last night in Guayaquil; my hostel bud (Daniel) and I decided to take a crack at the local Mariscos restaurant. While we enjoyed our dinner I took the opportunity to ask him various questions about why take 6 months out of your life to come to South America, so far from home (Melbourne). I remember being 20 and having a hard time leaving my own neighborhood, let alone flying 3,000 miles away. Actually, I think I was 20 the first time I took a plane, and it was only to a destination 90 miles away
So ladies & gents, introducing Mr. Daniel Nicholson
And what about this food!
New Year Buzz and stolen goods
I will start with the bad news, my blackberry got stolen last night. And though I’m still pissed about it because I have to ask everyone for their phone number(s) and I can’t update my Facebook status…at least I wasn’t robbed at gunpoint or knife or llama. It happened at the end of the night, probably around the time you west coasters were counting down. Me and my friend Tara were walking back to our respective hostels when it happened. I took my phone out of my pocket to check the time and then all of a sudden some guy runs behind us and grabs it from my hand. It was so unreal that it took me seconds to realize it. I could have run after the guy, but let’s be honest…i was drunk and I didn’t want to get stabbed.
Now New Year’s itself (the countdown, fireworks, dancing in the street), it was pretty impressive. Even Tara (who’s from NY) mentioned that this was wore more engaging than Times Square. It was raining all day and all through the night ,but it didn’t stop anyone. We met 2 nice girls from Amsterdam, but we lost them in the countdown somewhere. Enjoy the pics and the video ![]()
I’m recovering today….xoxo
Day 2, in Peru
After spending 6 hours at the fabulous Lima airport, and enjoying some Starbucks and Mickey D’s, I finally made it to Cuzco. We sat on the plane for about an hour, and later I found out that LAN Airlines canceled ALL THEIR FLIGHTS to Cuzco today because of the shitty weather. So I guess I lucked out, though makes me wonder what will become of my flight out of Cuzco to Guayaquil. Well, for now…who cares.
I met up with my dear friend Erin and her sister Alyssa. They both had planned to be here a long time before I did, but in changing my itinerary a few weeks ago, I ended up going through Lima and decided to make Cuzco part of the trip. We decided to head up to visit Saqsaywaman and it was just amazing. It was raining like crazy when we left the Plaza but it cleared up by the time we got up to the park. Amongst the heavy breathing (I’m out of shape), I couldn’t help but be overcome with amazing emotions about being in such a beautiful place. Check out the vid and the pics and let me know what you think
My new love
